What You Need to Know About Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplastyalso commonly referred to as endonasal, is a procedure performed by making incisions inside the nose contrary to an external procedure where incisions are made both on the inside and outside of the nose. In both types, external and closed, incisions are made inside the nose, and despite being more difficult than external rhinoplasty, closed rhinoplasty allows for more reshaping possibilities. The main advantage of the closed procedure over the external technique is that there are less surgical incisions. In addition, the risk of post-operative edema is diminished, and visible scarring risk is also significantly reduced since the procedure is done inside the nasal cavity.

Minimal swelling is experienced in the closed technique and it has a short recovery time as compared to the external procedure. The operating time is also generally shorter when carrying out a closed rhinoplasty nose job. This technique also gives the patient the opportunity to look at before and after pictures to get an idea of what kind of results the procedure yields in many cases.

Closed rhinoplasty surgery is mostly recommended for clients requesting for slight alterations to their nasal structure. The ideal candidates for closed procedure include people with shorter noses with perky tips or non-crooked noses or with shorter nose tips. On the other hand people with crooked noses, often due to broken bones, with large lumps on the bridge of their nose, over-projected noses and large noses with drooping ends may be ideal candidates for the external procedure. It is important that as a patient, you consider proper preparation before the surgical operation. It is important to go for consultation in order to get more knowledge on the procedure and what you need to do before the procedure.
